Mr Roger Lewis

1st Degree Black Belt
Level 2 Coach


Mr Lewis started his Martial Arts career at the age of 15, studying Shotokan Karate. He then transferred to Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years before joining the WCKA, under the instruction of Master Cliff Brown. It was with Master Brown that Mr Lewis became a reputable competitor winning Gold medals at Welsh and British level in Traditional Karate Kumite, Points and Light Continuous Fighting.

In 1993, Mr Lewis started training in Ju Jitsu with Grand Master Ray Wonnacott (8th Dan) and achieved a 3rd Dan Black Belt after 14 years. During that time, he was also awarded a Blue Belt in Brazilian Ju Jitsu from Carlos Valente (a Gracie cousin) and took part in UFC Ground & Pound seminars with Ian 'the machine' Freeman, winner of UFC 27.

Mr Lewis has provided many self defence courses for women involving knife defences, throws, take-downs and many other scenarios.

In 2007, Mr Lewis rejoined the competition circuit with the WCKA Superfit Squad and became a Welsh International fighter, travelling to Germany in 2007 and Spain in 2009, winning Bronze and Silver medals respectively.
